Former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings has urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in various constituencies to vote out Members of Parliament who have become a liability to their communities or risk voter apathy during the national elections.

In the run-up to the NDC parliamentary primaries scheduled for November 21, 2015, Flt Lt Rawlings said electing personalities with credibility would help to restore hope.

The former president made the call recently when Captain Paapa Asuako-Owiredu, a former captain of the Black Star Line and aspiring Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya in the Central Region, called on him accompanied by some opinion leaders and party sympathisers to formally inform him of his candidature.

Almost crestfallen by the inability of their representatives at the just ended two-day forum on the voter register to convince the Electoral Commission to compile a new register for the 2016 elections, the opposition New Patriotic Party appear to have finally accepted the position of the other stakeholders for the election managing body to “cleanse” the register.

Leading the biggest opposition party’s present position on the voter register is NPP chief spin doctor and well-acclaimed instigator of Electoral Reforms, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, who is not only advocating for an audit and cleaning of the register, but also wants the precise form that will be accepted by all.

Adom FM, an Accra based radio station has exposed the hypocrisy of the Power Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, who is struggling to bring an end to the three year energy crisis that has hit the country.

The Member of Parliament for Pru, who has promised to resign at the end of this year, should he fail to solve the energy conundrum, had two years ago gone bonkers, accusing the managers of the energy sector of lacking ideas and direction.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako has invoked the spirit of the late Upper East Regional Chairman, Alhaji Adams Mahama to lead the party’s onslaught, ahead of the 2016 general elections.

Chairman Wontumi, as he is popularly known, said he believes the spirit of the late Chairman will continue to support the party through thick and thin until Nana Addo is declared the President of Ghana.

Reminiscing on what he said was the late chairman’s unflinching commitment towards victory for the party, the NPP regional chairman said irrespective of what the Electoral Commission and the President Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) will do; Nana Addo will surely emerge victorious.

The aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma South Constituency, Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpujie, waving to the crowd during the launch of his campaign.An aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma South Constituency, Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpujie, has assured the constituents of total development when given the nod to represent them in parliament.

Mr Vanderpujie, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), vying under the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said his executive experience in the assembly, as well as the success he had chalked up over the years was proof that he would be able to bring development to the people.

One of the aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC), parliamentary candidate for the Tema West Constituency, Mr Bill Boglo-Hedo, has called for a clean campaign by the contestants and supporters to ensure harmony in the party.He said unity in the party was paramount than individual interest, hence it was incumbent on all to conduct campaigns devoid of insults and allegations.

Mr Boglo-Hedo was speaking to the media after he officially launched his campaign for the NDC parliamentary primary  at Sakumono-Estates last Sunday."I wish to advise all our followers to be civil in their debates and focus on issues that will help the delegates make the right choice.We should be guided by the principal objective of the party to win the presidential slot and retain our majority in Parliament," he stressed.

Moses Anim, MP,  Trobo-AmasamanA citizens’ forum geared towards connecting the grass roots to parliament was organised at Fise, a suburb of Trobu-Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region at the weekend.

Dubbed “Dialogue with Parliament,” the forum, which formed part of a key component of the “Connecting Citizens to Parliament” project offered the opportunity to Trobu Amasaman constituents to engage and interact with their Member of Parliament, Mr Moses Anim.
